Middle School

4th-grade-geometry.jpgAs students transition into the Middle School at Bethany, they will have the opportunity to explore topics from all  academic areas in further depth. Additionally, a number of new experiences and activities will be available for them to consider.  Becoming an independent learner is a focus at this level, as well as taking responsibility for one's work, one's words and one's actions.  The caring and safe atmosphere of every classroom promotes growth in knowing oneself and appreciating the gifts and talents of others.

Fourth, fifth and sixth grade classes will have no more than 15 students.  Academic instruction becomes 5th-grade-reader.jpgmore rigorous and homework is more of a responsibility. Classes are taught departmentally, allowing students to experience the gifts of every teacher at a grade level and teachers the opportunity to work with students in areas of particular interest and competence.  The language arts program stresses mastery in reading, comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, listening, and writing, culminating with a research paper at every grade level. Math stresses basic skills and a conceptual understanding, enhanced with manipulatives and calculators. Additional support is provided through the Accelerated Math program.  Social studies focuses on Ohio, ancient civilizations and U.S. history. 6th-grade-science.jpgThe science program is a balance of hands-on activities and science concepts.

Middle School students meet twice weekly for music, art, physical education, Spanish, Christian Education, library and computer lab classes.
